I needed a defrag of my hard drive it hadn't been done for awhile , got to 4% and the computer froze up... Hadn't had a freeze up or crash this year! , had to ctrl alt del and reboot computer.

Now it's corrupted some of the files on my drive and chkdsk is having to fix the corruption

Did a full drive chkdsk and system file check , RPCRT4.DLL was found to be the only bad file , bad sector fix 4KB.

Hopefully thats the last of the corruption!

I would advice you to run a proper hdd tool to check if your drive is on the way out. I usually use the manufacturer of your drive's tools that way if the drive is on it's way out hopefully be able to get the important data backed up.

Or clone the old drive to a new drive. You can never be to careful when it comes to important data.

Tried seatools windows but it wouldn't test anything just came up as failed within 1sec of me clicking test.. Example i clicked on long read test and it said failed within 1sec.

I tried hd tester pro and it did a check of my drive and said HEALTH - OK

Then HDTACH to test performance

Check RAM with memtest or prime. Use HDD manufacturer testing tool (longest non-destructive test. If all good, test defrag again. If all OK call it a glitch, if not, needs further investigation. AV soft unlikely to have an affect but possible.

Will do the ram test later , hdd manufacture tool wouldn't test the drive just failed within 1sec of clicking test. Even the long test failed within 1sec , doesn't give me any results!

HDD test would be first on my list. I have had a that same problem with SeaTools for windows but never the boot disc:

http://www.seagate.com/www/en-us/support/downloads/seatools/seatooldreg

specifically,

http://www.seagate.com/support/seatools/SeaToolsDOS207EURO.iso

If there is still a problem, try WD's (not a problem that its not the manufacturer, still does a good test):

Boot CD: http://support.wdc.com/product/download.asp?groupid=607&sid=30&lang=en

Windows: http://support.wdc.com/product/download.asp?groupid=607&sid=3&lang=en

Then I personally use orthos for prime, blend test for a day after the HDD tests for checking system stability.
