performace question

Hi I'm a bit dated on memory and want to ask a question: I just had one of my sticks of ram die on me, they were 2x1GB DDR2.

Now if I bought another two 1GB sticks and stuck them in with the remaining alive one, would there be a performance drop? I know that you used to have to have matched pairs of ram running but is this the case with DDR2? Sorry if this isn't worded too clearly.

It depends on what you mean by "performance drop" and also what your usage is. You will almost certainly lose memory bandwidth and, although your MOBO "should" support Flex Mode for the memory, you might lose dual channel if the BIOS does not like your memory combo.

Just to keep it simple, I'd suggest a 2 x 2GB kit since RAM is so cheap.
