So I'll have around £5k to spend, possibly £6k. What can I get?

I have a relatively short daily commute of roughly 25 miles each way, so I'm not too fussed on toys and creature comforts, though some would be nice.

I want something fairly quick and fun to drive, but also reliable.

Currently I'm looking at breadvan Civic Type-Rs or RenaultSport Meganes.

I'm not a fan of the CTR's styling, and I much prefer the Megane, but I'm concerned that it'll fall to pieces. Are they fairly reliable?

Is there anything else worth looking at?

I'm not 100% set on a hot hatch, by the way. It just so happens that they're the two cars I've been primarily looking at.

Thanks!

I love the idea of an ST220, but after driving my dad's way back when, I don't think I could afford the fuel bills! You could literally see the fuel gauge moving to the left!

I didn't consider a Focus ST - will check some out!

I disagree! That V6 is mega thirsty. I mean yeah, they're both going to eat fuel, but I'd be surprised if the Focus wasn't a tad more economical.

(But anyway, I'd really rather talk about potential cars than get drawn into an argument about whether or not a V6 drinks more fuel than a turbo'd 5-pot.)
