Any ideas whether the above change of CPU (and memory/MB of course) would give a noticeable jump in FPS on games when using my 5850?

Also, and more relevently, would the jump be more visible on games like FSX and Dragon Age which are demanding on the CPU?

Anybody making a similar CPU jump with a top line GFX card welcome to add their experiences please?

yes deffo my mate went from a q6600 at 3.0 to i7 t 4 and in crysis alone he got between 15-20 fps boost . he was using a 4870x2 in cod and other games should see a nice boost.

Huge jump. Just went from a [email protected] to an i7 myself, and the performance increase was amazing. I'm now seeing pretty much double the fps in dirt2 with my 5850... turns out the cpu was indeed a huge bottleneck.

Depends what your doing and what your hardware is.

As mentioned above something like FSX should see a massive boost... or if your running 4800 series crossfire, 200 series SLI or a high end/crossfire 5x00 series setup you should see a good performance boost as well.

If your only running something like a single 250GTS or 4870 you probably won't see a huge difference except in CPU limited games.

After looking round the net and seeing that the same clocked q9550 and I5 the I5 750 will be around 40% faster that's made my mind up its save and upgrade.
