Hi my system is :

Abit Nf7-S MB
XP-M 2600 @ 2.2
OCZ 512MB (2x256MB) PC3200 Platinum Series @ CAS2
HIS Radeon 9800 pro

I'm going to do a major upgrade at the end of the year but would adding a stick of 1GB memory give me a performance boost. I was going to get the cheapest 1 GB stick at CAS3 to add to my 512kb CAS2 memory.

e.g. Crucial 1GB DDR PC3200 CAS3 for abot £70.

Good or bad idea?

cheers
S

Not that sure on a socket A system these days, but i know a couple of years ago when i had a XP 2000 rig i upped the memory from 512mb to 1gb and i did see a nice boost so i presume you will see one too. When it comes down to it more ram is always better.

Not sure about mixing latencies though. It is always best practice to get some more of what you already have or to get rid of what you have and get all new. Maybe someone else could point you in the right direction on that.

If you are going to get the cheapest 1gb you can then that is'nt it. If you look around you can get a 1gb kit for £42.

it would be best to get some 2x512mb 2-2-2-5 timing DDR400 memory. i dunno if athlon xp's we're able to do 2x1GB 2-2-2-5 modules... i think it can but cant be 100% sure.
