Performance Diesels

I presume you're talking about cars like the 335d rather than stuff like the Leon FR?

Either way, speed and power whilst being frugal.

I didn't see the other thread, I should have used the search feature. Care to expand on your stupid post in this stupid thread? Or would that just be stupid?

Anyone else agree/disagree with performance diesels?

Diesel cannot be used in the same sentance as performance.:D Ok just kidding, but definatly not fun, or a drivers car.

335d is pretty awesome, with all that torque, and if it manages 40mpg like it's supposed to.....but i doubt it if you drove it hard.....

Of course there's a point to performance diesels. It comes down to what people want. Performance, economy and cost all come into it. The 535d is a fair but quicker than the 535i and will return better fuel economy but the initial outlay is a lot more. That's probably going to be ofset a fair amount by the resale though. If it was all about revs we'd be driving vtecs, rotary's or two strokes. It comes down to what people want for various reasons.

On the road it doesn't matter if a diesel car is fast or not, if it feels fast and the driver enjoys the power delivery then it's a good car/engine.

If you're a serious petrol head then a diesel is not going to be the top of your list, the world would be a boring place if we were all the same...

I can get an average of about 43-45 on a long journey on the motorway and with town driving or giving it a blat I can get down to low 30s. In the year I've had it I've never had a tank average under 33mpg.

It was more the fun part.

Depends on what you consider to be "fun" in a car.

A decent amount of revs and a great soundtrack gets a car off to a great start in the fun stakes in my book, something that diesel cars quite simply cannot offer.

Its all relative, weight, engine power and handling all contribute to fun. As does peoples perspective. No one can tell someone else something isn't fun.

i think there is a point with performance diesels , but ill get shot down in flames but in short i like the mpg/tax/insurance , and the torq's yo !
