Hi

Would their be a huge performance difference going from an onboard sound to a sound card?
if so what are we talking? a lot? a little?

whats the best sound card to go for around £50 that is less of a CPU performance threat?

well, im using onboard atm, and compared to (my dead) xfi, it is a bit bland, for gaming 2142 sound immense with the xfi compared to my onboard.

IMO it is worth it :)

Well if you want an all-rounder then go for an X-Fi. It will save u a couple of frames and it supports all the latest EAX game goodies for better sound in games. The card is also decent at listening to music and watching movies.
The sound quality will be better than the on-board you are using but it also depends on your speakers aswell.
