could any one with 1st hand experiance or some one in the know, the performance % gain would be had from upgrading my 1950xt 256mb to 3870 xt,would like to stick with ati for time being,thanks
 
i moved from a x1900XT to a 2900XT which is a similar jump, and i found that my 3d marks 06 score improved, i cant remember by how much. for gaming i cant really say as i gamed very little on the x1900XT and i rarely game on my current card.

the %ance gain is dependent on what you do though, if you play internet based flash games then i will say no improvements ,however if you are playing games like CoD4 then you should see a higher average framerate or places where you use to lag lag less or stop lagging
 
Have a look at the HD3870 and HD3850 reviews on techpowerup.com

They tend to have the X1900XTX (so faster than a XT) in the results line up as a comparison.
 
I upgraded from a 512MB X1950XT to a 512MB HD2900XT and the difference was big, sorry not sure of percentages but BIOSHOCK was not playable at 1920x1200 with the X1950XT but became Ultra smooth with the HD2900XT.

I would imagine an upgrade from a 256MB X1950XT to a 512MB HD3870 would be rather nice! :)
 
From Your 256mb 1950 it will be a big upgrade and run everything except crysis at 1920x1200, best flavor is the Gecube turbo 111 or the special HIS version ;)
