Wireless netowrking is something I don't have a great deal of experience in so appologies if these questions are blatenly obvious to some... man I feel like a n00b

Anyway, a little backgroud first. I have 3 machines in my house which are connected to the internet on a conventional Netgear DG834 ethernet router on a 2mb ADSL connection. I was considering going wireless with the DG834PN... so my questions are

1. Will there be any performance loss in moving over to this kit... my internet usage is high i.e. constant downloads, online gaming etc. whereas the other machines are minimal to average.

2. I assume that the PCI cards for my desktop machine and the PCMCIA cards for laptops in the rangfemax series would offer better performance than the USB2 adapters... is this the case or are my assumptions here totally wrong?

Cheers.

Hiya

I dont think you will notice any degradation in service over what you have now.

I have issues with my connection, but its ten times faster than yours (not gloating honest lol)

As long as you dont allow other users to hammer your upstream then you r pings should be fine.

I have had pings of <5ms to games servers over wireless

Cool, thats good news.

Does anybody got any input on the 2nd question? Asking around most people seem to think that USB adapters if on USB2 would perform just aswell as a PCI or PCMCIA card, but for some reason in the back of my mind I seem to think otherwise... can anyone set my head straight please?

Agreed. You 'shouldnt' notice any performance issues over pci, but in my experience my pci cards have always been more stable. But I suspect thats more to do with software than the usb adapter itself
