So I've built my new PC and tried booting and... no display. Then I checked the keyboard and mouse, and they aren't getting anything either. I'm using a Gigabyte GA-P55-USB3 graphics card with a Gigabyte GTX 460 1GB card. Monitors I've tested are HDTV and a DVI 20" monitor. I'm still fairly new to building PCs but I've done a few before and never had this problem. Any ideas? :(

Plus that must be plugged in:

24 pin ATX
4/8pin Connector next to the PSU
Graphics card also has power connectors - make sure they are plugged in (6or8 pin power similar to CPU power)

Is there beeps, fans spinning etc?
What PSU and are the motherboard headers populated with switch reset etc?

Corsair TX650W. 8-pin and 24-pin both plugged in securely from the PSU to mobo, graphics card has 2x 6 pins plugged in securely. No beeps - all fans and lights are okay, felt the hard drive and there's movement there - the DVD drive opens up alright, the lights on the mobo are on as well.

EDIT: And yeah, mobo i/o connections all good... triangle used as positive, etc. etc.

Have you tried resetting the CMOS?

Even better, if you have a spare PC speaker / case speaker, plug it into the speaker header, this will tell you a fault if it exists. It will (probably) be in the form of beep codes, just write / remember what they are.

Tried plugging in the speaker to rear and front audio but no luck there. I'll try resetting the CMOS now, I suppose.

Interestingly, when I first power on the desktop, all the caps/num/scroll lock lights flash on the keyboard... but after booting, no matter how many times I press the buttons, the lights will not flash up. It's like there is power but it doesn't understand that it's a keyboard.

For what it's worth, the keyboard is PS2 and the mouse is USB and optical - but the optical light on the mouse won't light up either.

Guess I'm lucky I have two desktops... haven't upgraded my girlfriend's one yet so can still post here!

Oh, yeah, I've already inserted that. F_AUDIO, yeah? I've used both HD-AUDIO and AC'97 audio with no beeps for either. Tried reseating the RAM now, reseated all cables, still no luck. :(

Looking at the manual, ram goes into DDR3_1 and DDR3_2 (Plug one stick into DDR3_1 and see if it boots).

The speaker foes into the front panel connector marked SPEAK in the bottom right corner, not the audio ones, as these are for the soundcard, not the BIOs.

Just to check, the board is on risers / standoffs iin the case right?

Ah, my apologies regarding the speaker thing - I just realised what you meant. :) I've tried it now and yeah, there are beeps - well, constant beeps, sort of like a hyperactive alarm. At least I'm getting somewhere now, I guess.

EDIT: Yup, got the standoffs below the board, screwed into them as per the manuals - nine of them.

Urgh, all that time I had the RAM in DDR3_2 and DDR3_4 because the slots are ordered 2, 1, 4, 3. >_< Stupid me. But on the upside, it works! Thanks for bringing the slot numbers to my attention. :)

No problem.
Glad you got it sorted. It never used to matter, but I have a gigabyte board that doesn't boot if they are in the other slots :D.
