I currently use a Saitek eclipse keyboard which has been great however some of the key presses are not as good as they once were and it could probably do with being replaced, Additionally i am using a steelseries Ikari mouse which is also fantastic however it is also getting old and become damaged.

For a keyboard I am looking for something that is comfortable to type on ( I will be typing my MSc thesis on it) but also suitable for some gaming, FPS and mostly MMOs. Preferably something minimalistic in design (i.e. not OTT gaming styling) perhaps with some macro and media keys. I am not really bothered about mechanical keys, I hear these can be quiet noisy?

The mouse, I would probably be happy with another ikari, it feels great in the hand and has performed flawlessly, however I wonder if there is better available now. The mionix naos looks similar and the new(ish) corsair mice seem to have also had good reviews. I enjoy the steelseries styling but it would seem the ikari is discontinued.

I may also be looking for a headset, with a microphone but that also offers excellent audio quality.

In terms of mouse, the Naos 7000 is the most comfortable mouse I've used and it has a great sensor, don't spend the extra for the Naos 8200 it's got a laser sensor. Corsair wise I would avoid the M65 RGB if that's what you were looking at, not a great shape, too heavy, bad sensor.

Mechanical keyboards are noiser, but you can get O rings for them to quiet them down, if you are looking at typing a thesis you will definitely appreciate the much improved typing feel.

For the headset, when you say excellent audio quality how much are you talking budget wise?

The m65 is indeed what I was looking at, having not held it I was concerned about the ergonomics, especially after coming from an ikari.

Fair point, I hadn't considered that they would be better to type on. How complicated are these o-rings to put on and do they affect anything other than noise? Can you recommend any particular models or which colour switch would suit my needs?

I was terribly vague sorry. Probably looking at around the £100 mark for this, I realise excellent to some people will be £1000+.

Yeah it's just a gimmicky product if you ask me really (the RGB) with the underlying product being average at best. If you're used to a palm grip mouse like the ikari your best be is either the Naos 7000 or a logitech G4/502 which are both great also.

This thread is well worth a read if you haven't looked into them too much. http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18523430. If you are looking at doing a lot of typing MX blues are ideal but if you are concerned about noise that is their downfall, the most popular switch is reds which are non clicky and quiet but still much nicer to type on then membrane. Like I said, give that thread a read and see what you think.

At around £100 you could be looking at headsets like the Corsair H2100 or the Mionix Nash 20, H2100 noses it in audio quality (and is wireless ofc) but the Nash 20 is much more comfortable.

Other option is the Kingston HyperX cloud, it's a fair bit cheaper, has good audio quality and is pretty comfortable.

Thanks a lot! Have had a look through what you suggested. I think I will get a Naos 7000 and a red or brown switch keyboard. The Nash also looks interesting!

You won't be disappointed with the Naos, I just got the chance to get back to using mine again and it's a real treat.

Sound like a plan on the switches, reds and browns are by far the most popular switches, you can't really go wrong with any of the keyboards OCUK sell tbh but if you get one from elsewhere make sure you are buying Cherry MX swithces and not Kalih (chinese copy, only really used in cheapo mechs, tesoro for example but they make ugly stuff anyway so who cares :D)

Nash 20 is also the headset I keep coming back to, I've not tried anything that has the same level of comfort over extended wear, and they sound great with a good source.

Would you recommend any keyboard? A lot seem to have strong 'gaming' styling and flashing lights which I don't really care for. (I don't mind subtle back lighting at all, in fact it would be a plus point)
Have you used red and brown switches? I noted that the brown have some tactile feedback upon actuation, is this pleasant or beneficial, is the smoothness of the red switch better?

I have been looking round for a while, by far my favourite keyboard is the DAS professional S. It is quite expensive, certainly more than I was looking to spend. Is it worth is? I am an average 2 finger typist, however I would like to improve.
