Permanently enable Aero themes

Hi there! I'm getting really annoyed with the constant theme switching - Does anyone know of a way that I can have Aero enabled permanently??

There seems to be plenty of advice about how to disable it - I can't find any to make it stay on!

What's causing it to disable? On my system the only time it disables is if the WEI test is running, or I watch a Blu-ray using PowerDVD, nothing much you can do about it if software is specifically disabling Aero.

I have a rough idea - but it doesn't really make sense

I was running Civ5 in DX10 and MPC on a separate screen - it changes themes only some of the time when I click into MPC causing it to lock up I have to restart MPC.

It's completely random.

You can turn off the theme or in a shortcut use "Disable Visual Themes". I had just thought there might be a way to lock it to enabled, but I can't find it.

If you look around in event log it should state what program is disabling Aero.

Media Player Classic normally forces Aero to disable.

Try using Media Player Classic - Home Cinema Edition. It's an update of the original open source MPC, one of the improvements is that it has been re-designed to support Aero properly.

Assuming you meant Media Player Classic of course ;)

You can't lock it as the application is actually incompatible with it, as a result all Windows can do is revert to the classic non DX accelerated theme so that it can render the window.

Ha! Nice - I had installed a codec pack and somehow it over-wrote the home cinema edition.

Thanks :)

Might aswell ask this here.

Sometimes when I'm playing a game (I think it has been JC2 in the past and maybe Mafia 2) it takes me out of the game and says about slow performance and changes to a basic theme to improve performance.

Why exactly would a theme effect performance?

Something else is taking you out of the game and referring to slow performance, nothing to do with the theme.

in the past, after using up all of my physical RAM and most of the page file, I have known Windows to shut down Aero in an attempt to free up some more.

i would hazard a guess that this is what is happening to you.

I'll have to keep an eye on my ram/cpu levels on my secondary though while playing something like JC2 not too sure why it would do this.
