permanently hibernated laptop??

My mate just rang me asking for some help with his laptop. Basicly he has an advent with a 5200 and a centrino in it as per usual. he was just browsing the net when apperantly a message popped up sayin there was a problem with the software (not sure what exactly) and said it was going into hibernation

now the charge light wont even come on when its plugged into the mains and no matter how many times he takes the battery out n puts it in and hammers the on button not a thing happens

any ideas?
