Hey OCUK. recently tried overclocking my 7870. I can't remember what clocks I got up to but it wasn't a massive overclock. It passed furmark and heaven with no artifacting and about 70c. I then run Witcher 2 and I have massive artifacting. I put the clocks down 40MHz and try again. Artifacting. Put to stock clocks. Artifacting. Put to half clocks. Artifacting. Happened on metro and portal 2 too.

After a restart however it was fine. Put It back to stock clocks and was fine.

Is therr a chance CCC was not downclocking my card when I told it to? And will there be any permenant damage?

Its quite common if you have a somewhat unstable GPU OC for the issues to still show once clocks are dropped without rebooting.

If you can reboot at stock clocks and everything is fine then my money is on your GPU being fine :)

NP, It happens on both AMD and Nvidia GPU's, another common fault from a bad OC is the clocks once reset will not go back to 3D performance levels under stress, usually sit around half the speed - again a reboot fixes all.

When overclocking a GPU, having your OS on an SSD is an absolute godsend :p
