perpetuum?

Is it free to play now? Played the beta, looked like it had a lot of potential. Building your own mech and running around shooting stuff plus lots of depth seemed good at the time.

edit: Or maybe I'm thinking of a different game, not sure about the name now I think about it.

There's a two week free trial, and a cheap sub afterwards. It's Eve light with robots, and not at all bad, but when I tried it a few weeks ago the population had dropped below critical levels - 100 people average on at peak time. It just wasn't enough to have a functional game anymore, and the market was dead.

It is extremely similar to Eve, however combat is quite different. For a start you're obviously confined to the ground, and you use WASD to move. Line of sight is an issue (and you can use it to your advantage). Basically combat is much more involved in Perpetuum than in Eve. The size of the playerbase is indeed a concern, however if you're at all interested you really ought to check it out. I enjoyed it when I played it, although it did make me yearn for Eve. :D

To be fair to the OP, he was simply asking for opinions on the game. There would be little point in providing links because that would only be useful to people who weren't aware of the game, and thus unable to give any opinions anyway.

Or am I being too lenient?

Far too lenient. Get out the pitchforks! :D

Thank you.

So are you going to give it a shot? If you do, and you haven't played Eve, prepare for a bit of a learning curve!

I started a trial 2 days back, the terrain is a little odd in places. Seems like areas that look like you can pass, you can't. Areas that look closer on the map, are not so close through the maze.

If memory serves, ability to climb slopes of certain degrees depends on your bot. It's one of their attributes.

Once you've got your feet wet, if you sub I'd strongly recommend joining a corporation as soon as possible. Just as with Eve, joining a decent corp makes it a completely different game. Corps in Eve and Perpetuum are much more necessary than guilds are in other MMORPGs.

The graphics are much nicer in EvE & the targeting seems odd in this game, I click & it doesn't seem to help, but R doesn't seem to work right also. I think I would go EvE instead of this.

That's the problem though, there are sod all players. Literally 100 people on average online in the whole game a few weeks back when I tried it.

There's just not enough people to make it viable anymore.

Really? That's sad. The developers failed to capitalise on the massive influx during the great Eve genesis of 2011, then. It's a shame, because Perpetuum isn't half bad and is to Eve what Rift is to WoW; something close enough to be comfortable but different enough to be viable.
