Hi All

Last summer I spent a fair bit of time working on the front lawn at my house, putting down some parking grid and making it into a lovely lawn (you can read about it here: http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18512738)

Anyway, over the autumn and winter I put down plastic to try to kill of any weeds in the borders ready for planting up this spring. For various reasons I didn't get the borders planted up this spring. And I have been fighting a battle with some sort of weed that just will not go away.

I have been using glysophate and giving the bed a good drenching which has seemingly killed it off as it goes brown and dies off but in less than a week it's back again and growing happily, this cycle has happened 4 times now!!!

This is the offending plant...

There are loads of shoots of it popping up from the bed

Also, anyone able to identify this plan which has shot up in the last week or two (my neighbour and parents think it looks like a potato plant...):

Any help much appreciated!!!

Dig it up properly, get the root with it. Then repeat with every weed that comes back if weed killer doesn't get it.

Weeds are an ongoing war.

buy some concentrated weed killer and put down 3 weekly sprays.

Hopefully that will kill the top section long enough to go down into the roots.

Remember, a weed is just an unwanted plant. It doesn't have a specific classification as everyone views plants differently.

So just use anything that will kill plants, and be very careful and selective in the application!

Oh yeah, I realise that I just wondered really what this blooming plant is as it's seemingly not too bothered by glysophate...lol...it does die off but is back within a couple of weeks...

Well, after a liberal dosing with a strong solution of bleach that absolutely stank and caused panic and mayhem in the world of the little creatures living in the soil as they fled the evil chemical that was killing them...the plant perked up and is still growing very happily as if it was in need of a good bit of bleach to get growing nicely...lol

Bit stumped as to what to do next...lol

Weeds like the vast majority of plants need sunlight.
The best best for a problem area is to cover it for a period of time.

If its really the original weed growing back, ie the root, digging it out will help a lot.

Weed seeds are the real pain, not just self setting but blown in on the wind.

Got any kids? Weeding the garden is a good way of earning their pocket money :).
