Hey all,

I am planning to make my own personal website. Basically I want to be able to host some pics maybe a few vids too. I also want to be able to blog on it. I will also do like mini reviews of games and things I do in general.

I want to do this to improve my typing skills but also my grammar skills. The more I write I feel the more I will improve.

Right down to the techy side of things. I havnt had any experience at all in programming so I really need to start learning the basics I guess. So what should I start out with ?

I've had a look at a couple of websites that offer hosting and a "make your own website easy" tools. The two I was looking at was godaddy.com and Domain.com. Anyone had any experience with these ? Any good ?

Thanks

The requirements you set out for your site basically equate to a CMS (Content Management System).

If you wanted to build one bespoke you would need to know:
Domain Administration
XHTML
CSS
PHP
MySQL

These are not things people pick up over night. So you are better off turning to one of the great pre-built ones. Wordpress and Joomla are good and should be fairly easy to install yourself and will let you do everything you want. Some hosts may even provide an install of these.. have a look at the Wordpress/Joomla sites and requirements and hosting options. They shouldnt cost you a lot for what you want.

Joomla looks pretty good. I might have to have a play with them both when I get home. On an office PC at the moment. So downloads are a no no.

Thanks for the advice
