Petabytes on a budget

I saw this yesterday... i would not fancy racking or de-racking one of those machines.

Saw this yesterday!

Was rather impressed until I saw the 1x IDE HDD for a boot drive. Surely spending a little bit more money to make it RAID1 would have been worth it!

Not hotswap = fail. Wouldn't like to be the guy finding the single failed disk at 3am with no failure / activity lights and the need to derack the whole thing to pull a single disk.

Looks good though, and certainly inspiring for my own little NAS project :)

The main problem I see is performance, all those disks using RAID6 to a couple of controller cards with slow interfaces. I would have spent more on motherboard and SATA cards then used RAID-Z and spent less on disk through gaining more space and far more performance.

That thing is like a teenagers A Level project. So slow, cheap and nasty compared to the real storage solutions. It would be a nightmare to manage.
