Im planning on buying a 2l petrol Ctr, when looking at miles on the clock i have no idea what is good and what is bad

I currently drive a 106 diesel and it has 110k on the clock. Its still reliable and i have no problems with it

I know diesel lasts longer and if it has more than 100k on the clock it should be ok

As iv never had a petrol engined car i have no idea whats a good mileage for a car to have travelled

Obviosuly i can get it cheaper but with more miles on the clock, but i dont know when it is too much and i may get engne problems

My old Fiesta 1.6s had 145,000 on it and was still going strong until my sister crashed it. It really depends on how its been treated and serviced

These days the engine doesn't matter. It's the rest of the car that gradually falls to bits, starts to feel crappy and ends the life of the car. Suspension, bodywork, etc etc. It also depends entirely on how the car has been used - there are many 50k mile cars that are in worse condition than 100k mile cars just as there are many 100k mile cars which are fit for the bin.

modern diesels don't last the same, injectors break.

my 2ltr mondeo is on just under 165000 and has had nothing major replaced, sure there wasa high milage thread on here and people had far more than that, penski had a thread about his mothers golf with 400k on

wow never thought they would have that much. makes me feel a bit better then if it has high mileage

If only i knew a pensioner selling a type-R :D

wont be wanting to buy off a boy racer

A mate of mine had a 2litre petrol Saab 9000 that had done 250,000 miles and mechanically was basically sound. New alternator and radiator had been fitted, it needed possibly a clutch and definatley a timing chain.

Scrap yard bought it for £30, and i beleive they MOT'd it and sold it for about £400. He saw it for sale at the yard for £450.

2.2 16v petrol Honda engine is on 167k that I'm driving. Still feels like its got most of its 150bhp left so I'm happy.
