Hi,
Can anyone make a rough guess as to how much petrol I'd use if I drove 53 miles, mainly motorway's, sticking to the speed limit in a vauxhall corsa 1.4.

A very rough estimate would be fine, I'm just curious.

Cheers
Chris

Just do the maths - find out how many MPG it does then adjust for 53 miles...

I have no idea of the MPG and the actual trip is going to be the first time I take it out, hence why I'm asking for a guestimate. Oh the lovely helpful people of ocuk.

What age Corsa are we talking here?

Assuming that the engine in your 1.4 is exactly the same as in the current model you'd be getting around 50mpg at 70mph, probably a bit more. Vauxhall quote the mileage for the current 1.4 as follows:

Urban - 36.2mpg
Extra-urban - 58.9mpg
Combined - 47.9mpg

It's a 1998, so are the spec different?

There have been many different 1.4 Vauxhall Corsas in the last decade. Go to www.parkers.co.uk and find out what the official MPG for it should be. Rather than having a moan at the folk here @ OcUK, why don't you actually try and do some research rather than letting everyone else answer for you

It might be. Parkers only quote the combined fuel mileage figure AFAIK, and that reckons on 38mpg if I've read the page right. So it'd probably be about 45-48mpg on a motorway cruise.

***edit***

Assuming of course you don't drive with a heavy right foot. A steady 60-65mph waft on a motorway should net you decent fuel economy. Runting up to 70-75 mph quickly using full throttle, sharp bursts of acceleration (well....as sharp as a 1.4 Corsa is capable of) round town, and the economy will drop through the floor.

About 6-7 litres. If it's the first time you've driven the car you are going to be that in tune with the vehicle, and are likely to drive quite uneconomically. I estimate 38mpg average for the journey.

Point has been made now. ;)

I'd be pessimistic and guess at 40mpg taking into account age of the car etc. So say about £5-£6 for 53 miles.

Thanks that's all I wanted, just a quick rough guess. And PMKeates I mean't I won't be taking the car out before the trip, I've had it for about 2 years now lol :)

Cheers anyway.

Why do you need it to be so exact? ;) Putting in petrol until the gauge goes down, and then putting more in, works for me :D But to be on the safe side, say a gallon and a half.

I was just wondering if the round trip was likely to cost £10 or £20 etc. I'm not great at working it out so I was hoping for someone to be able to give me a quick guess. Some of us have barely any money (sadface) so it'd important to know how much a trip is 'likely' to cost.

LOL. I just fill mine up until it won't take any more then run it until it goes "BEEEEEEEP!" and gives me a nice yellow light shaped like a pump about 400 miles later.

I've never got the money to fill it hah.
