Peugeot 3008 1.6 hdi judder issue

I recently bought a Peugeot 3008 1.6 hdi auto 2010 from auction for the sole reason it was cheap and fitted the job it needed to do for work with the decent boot space.

Now, I've read stuff about the ECG auto being terrible, but for the price I paid I decided to gamble and see how bad it really is. The fact it went cheap should have told me something.

Put it though an MOT which passed with no advisories, then full service and timing belt.

Only issue is when pulling away slowly, creeping in traffic or maneuvering it judders / shudders really badly in first gear until it picks up some speed, and doesn't seem to do it in reverse at all. I would also say the longer I drive and as it warms up it slightly improves, but marginally if any. It's almost like a learner driver first using a clutch, really not nice. No issues at speed either, just when moving off.

I mentioned this to the garage where I got the service done and their response was the ECG auto is just ****. However, I really don't see it being this bad by design, as the shudder really is quite bad and makes slow driving very annoying.

Any ideas what could be wrong? So far I've read about clutch, actuator and DMF, all expensive and if it is that it could easily end up back in auction.

Thanks for the replies.

Possibly brakes are slightly binding as well.

I spent abit more time testing the car today.

Tried slowly creeping the car forward and it was shuddering as it has done.

So I tried pressing the "S" mode button next to the gear selector, I assume this stands for sport. When creeping forward the shuddering stopped. So I turned off "S" mode and again it did not shudder.

I've no idea why turning S mode on and off would have changed anything. But it seems to have currently cleared the issue. However, I will have to see if the problem returns again before being sure it is solved.

Edit: Leaving the car turned off for 5 mins and then back on the issue was still not there. However, starting the car the next morning the issue was back again. Pressing S on then off again seems to clear the issue once again. I also tested leaving the car in S mode, turning off the ignition then back on again an hour later, and no judder. No idea what is going on here.

I did notice, when leaving the car for a short time, or over night the brake pedal gets really hard. When starting the car it goes back to normal. Not sure if this is correct or not. But when pressing the brake pedal down I hear a whoosh sound of air from the passenger footwell area. Not sure this is normal either?

If anyone has any ideas as to why the above is happening it would be good to know.
