Driving home from a dog walk this morning and the car suddenly lurched and a big "Engine Fault Repair Needed" message appeared on the dash along with a ! in a triangle.

I stopped when safe, popped the bonnet to take a look - yep, engine was still there.

Got back in, turned ignition on and all the warning lights/messages had gone!

I tentatively drove home and the car seems fine.

I've just been to my local dealer and they said there is nothing they can do if the message has gone as they will see nothing if they put the car 'on the computer'.

Does that sound right? I'm amazed that something as series as "engine fault repair needed" wouldn't leave a log of date/time/cause!

On the other hand, the garage could have booked me in for an investigation, so I would tend to think I've not been mislead.

If Peugeot booked in every car that threw a spurious warning message on the dash there would be a mile long queue outside every dealership!

French cars in particular tend to do this sort of thing from time to time. If it doesn't happen again in the next couple of weeks forget about it.

Just had same error on 2015 model we’ve only had for 6 weeks. Car currently back at Arnold Clark for assessment. I’m half expecting it to be difficult to diagnose and need a Peugeot dealership.

Don't expect much from a Peugeot dealer and you won't go far wrong. Last week my 2011 5008's engine went two days after a full service, diagnostic and MOT - given a resounding clean bill of health. Compounded by the fact I told them there was something wrong as we were intermittently losing power

They are the epitome of 'The computer says no'. I don't think they employ any real mechanics.

As expected, car has to go to Peugeot for diagnosis and Arnold Clark not able to find out what the fault is.

Shortly after the Engine Fault message appeared, the car started to do its particulate filter regeneration thing. I suspect the Engine Fault message is related to that, and maybe the filter needs cleaning or some kind of fluid topped up maybe.

Did your fault get resolved theukmoog?
