Hi, out of these two cars -

Peugeot 306 1.9 DTurbo

Peugeot 306 2.0 HDi

Which one has the best raw performance (0-60, Top Speed)?

Also, on a slightly seperate note, can you fit 17" alloys straight on a 306 DTurbo? If so, does it look a bit high up if you don't lower it?

Cheers, Ed.

The 1.9TD has slightly better performance but the HDi is a much better engine. Get the HDi if its within budget.

Not sure I would fit 17's even if they did fit. 16" max imo. On standard suspension 15" is the sweet spot imo, although thats what I've got so I'm obviously biased :o :p

Well I've already got a DTurbo :p

15"s are a bit small and 16"s just don't cut it, I've seen plenty with 17"s but I'm not sure if you need to roll the arches to stop them scrubbing. Also about the height thing.

Cheers, Ed.

There'll be no real world difference, same power, HDi has a fraction more torque but will be a bit heavier.

17s will fit as long as they're the right PCD/offset, but I wouldn't bother.

The HDi is much more pleasant to drive - less lag, better response, smoother and quieter. Probably not a great deal in it in terms of overall performance.

HDi has more potential for expensive things to go wrong, but they are generally very reliable.

There's nothing in the overall performance, but the older XUD one (1.9TD) will "feel" faster.

However, the HDi is much nicer to drive in my experience, its also a much better cruiser.

Go for a decent set of 16's, 17's are too big for a car of that size and end up just looking daft. I have 17's on my 5 Series and they dont look too small so imagine them on a 306!

Well there are plenty of nice looking 306's with 17"s but I might go for 16"s, it's just that I heard there isn't so much choose in tyres and alloys for that size?

Cheers, Ed.

I have had 17's and 16's on 306's and tbh all of them on stock suspension ruin the ride and handling.

16's look the best, and 15's give you the best ride and handling, personally i still think the 306 phase 3 with cyclones looks smashing.

Nonsense, 17's look fine on small cars. It just has to be the right car.

I had some 17's on my Fiesta Turbo and they suited it to the ground.

I've got 17"s on my 306 and they look massive (mines dropped 60mm too) and I'm considering some Euro style 16"s as they look loads better.
Go to Cleaned.be and type in 306, you'll see some beauties on smaller wheels.

I agree with blueboy, the HDi is a much more refined drive... if not the higher performer, 5 months ago i was weighing up these two, and in the end I spent the extra for the HDi, - havent looked back :D

Thats all well and good, but its well documented that anything bigger than 15" ruin the 306's pretty darn good handling.

HDi all the way........if you want a nice refined car. If you want more power on the cheap the 1.9 is ideal due to screw mod potential.

3 Door HDi will most probably be my next car.

How do the interiors compare, the 1.9TD has the gti interior I believe, but the HDI has a standard one. What are the differences therein?

I thought it was the other way round?

Put it this way, if the 306TD has the 'GTI' interior I sure feel sorry for the owners of the lower models!!

No wrong way round. The 2.0 has the GTi body kit, alloys & interior apart from 1/2 leather which is only standard in the Meridian and not dturbo 3 door.

The 1.9 has somewhat differing interior, same dash layout but the cloth in the 1.9 can be a bit interesting to say the least.

The 1.9td doesn't. The 2.0 HDi 3 door is a GTI replica apart from 1/2 leather seats. The 5 door has 1/2 leather seats and the GTi side skirts.
