Peugeot 607

fox, i dont recall citing length as the only factor in deciding the class of a car and i dont recall stating that this car is in the same class as anything at all, i have agreed with you at least once that it is not a 7 series class of car?

in fact the appeal of such a car (cost aside) is surely its slighty off the wall / alternative nature and the fact that it not similar to any other eurobox?

What would you compare it too then?

Put it this way, from my point of view, a person who likes big luxury cars and is in the market for them ...I would not even consider a Peugeot 607 ...I wouldn't consider it if I was in the market for an E-Class or a 5 Series contender to be brutally honest ...I would consider it if I was looking for something a bit cheaper that fits that fairly small bracket of cars that fall somewhere between executive and family cars ...such as the Volvo S60 and the Saab '95 ...however I already know I'd buy the Volvo.

Not sure what I'd compare it to as an overall package as its clearly an odd ball in the uk. I have also looked at the Volvo but like the Saab the previous model is very dated and the newer models are much more expensive. Looking at this car I'm thinking the flaws and negatives ate balanced out by the low cost and I was just trying to see what others thought.

Mate buy a Saab 9-5 or a Volvo if you want to go with the "alternative" choice and save some break downs.

What makes you say that these are more reliable compared to the linked car? I for one have been very disappointed with a 9-3 and for circa £4k I would be looking at a much higher mileage and older example of either car?

Now a Vel Satis would be a good shout but it will have the same electrical problems costing a fortune to fix as that 607. Also the newest Vel Satis is now getting on for 8 years old, great seats though, really very comfy.

Buy the Saab, they just dont go wrong much and 4k will get you a decent 05 example.

Good call and it no coincidence that two odd ball car choices are french! :D

I have actually looked at a few of these and driven two, my thoughts are...

positives:
looks - it does have presence
it is quick (after the initial scramble off the line)
the nissan engine is bullet proof (chain driven and only the spark plug service will cost)
great driving position, seats and spacious cabin

negatives:
looks - it is ugly as sin (and thats an understatement)
the technology is very old tech
thristy

I had a V6 Vel Satis brand new in 2002 i think it was, it was more comfortable than my Bentley, those front seats were arm chairs absolutely superb.

Thats where the good bits end, i kid you not that car was an electrical ****ing train wreck, every week it was something, i honestly dread to think what they are like now 8 years on.

Tyre pressure sensors were the worst i made them turn them off in the end, that and the stupid plastic key card thing, that was another non runner of a plan.
