Maybe us Brits are missing the point tho. I imagine racism is much more of an issue in the states as opposed to here?

In fact, I'd argue that Gay (now pronounced gaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay) is a far more successful reclamation/disempowerment of a slur than the N-word has been.
