PFM files on macs

I have a font which is a .pfm file on my PC, but my mac doesn't recognise it.
Does anyone know how you get these files to work on the mac? Is there anyway around this by perhaps converting the file type?

It's a Type 1 font that's native to Windows 2k. I've found a converter that'll make it into a true type font but it costs $1,999 USD.

That's a bit of a rip off for a font converter

Do you think there would be any other way around this, without having to actually convert it?
