pfSense is on a SG-220 so it's more than powerful enough to handle more bandwidth.

I've disabled snort and remove traffic shaping. No other services are running.

Connection between pfSense and the Vigor 130 is full duplex via cable.

If I test the bandwidth directly from the pfSense box I get:

Code:
Retrieving speedtest.net configuration...
Testing from PlusNet (212.159.59.182)...
Retrieving speedtest.net server list...
Selecting best server based on ping...
Hosted by Exascale Limited (Wolverhampton) [44.07 km]: 17.917 ms
Testing download speed................................................................................
Download: 42.32 Mbit/s
Testing upload speed................................................................................................
Upload: 18.46 Mbit/s

I've tried restarting it. I've looked at CPU usage and it's 99% idle. I'm at a bit of a loss here, any ideas?

So you're sync'd at 52mbit but getting 42mbit...

What speed do you get if you connect a pc directly to the vigor, just to rule out the sg220.

Not sure as I'm not at home and I just managed to kill my connection to the net (home to net). I had a third interface, a sub interface that allows me to get back to the Vigor so I disabled it thinking it may be interfering and it's dropped the whole thing.:D

It could just be the speedtest server i often get higher speeds on other servers than the lowest ping one , some servers are very slow.

Stick a host with a gigabit NIC on the WAN network of the pfsense box, then pull data from it inside the LAN network.

Not a true life test but it will give you n understanding of the boxes throughput.

No, I don't have any VPN services running. I did notice the sync speed on the modem has dropped now:

I get this on further diagnostics on the OR speediest.

The Performance Tester is currently unable to run a speed test for your broadband connection. Please try again shortly, however if this problem persists, raise the issue with your service provider.

Think Plusnet have their own checker in the members area https://portal.plus.net/my.html?action=data_transfer_speed
Not a member myself so can't check the link.

I've just updated pfSense to 2.3.4-RELEASE-p1 and I am now seeing over 50Mbit from the router and just over 5.7MB from nzbget. I have tried to previously restart it so I assume there was some QoS stuff left over which although was cleared out of the GUIs config, wasn't actually removed. Either that or a soft reset wasn't enough before and the upgrade process has done something else.

Although not quite the 52 that's being advertised by my modem (DS Actual Rate : 55121000 bps), it's a welcome, albeit minor, step up.
