Hi All,

Looking for a little clarity on an idea I have for my home server....

Basically I want to install ESXi 6 on my HP n54l and then have a pfsense vm, server 2012 vm and some others.

I want to do this without disturbing anyone else who connects directly to our home router. Am i right in thinking i can have the home router performing as per normal and then connect port1 on the server nic to the pfsense box as WAN (into home router) and then port2 on the server nic as LAN and plugged into a switch with all my computers connected to?

No obvious reason why not.

You would be inflicting a double NAT situation on yourself. Whether that'd matter will depend on how you use the connection.

Why do you feel that you need pfSense?

Hi Bremen,

What adverse affects would a double NAT have on me?

I just wanted to play around with it as i've never used it however putting it in to use instead of a test vm
