can some one please explain to me in dumb dumb language about pgp and its code, for say when truecrypt offers you to use it etc is it just a superfied md5 hash or ? and whats it to do with communications ?

It uses public key encryption, a common and very secure encryption method. For an explanation check out wikipedia.
