Hey

I am a noob at online PGR3 and I am finding it very difficult at the moment. I am normally last or second last and was just wondering if anyone has any tips. I normally find that within the first 10 seconds of the game I usually spin off :( because someone taps me and sends me into a spin.

Stick to group E cars to start with, much easier to control if you get nudged plus things arnt quite as speedy :)

(oh, and dont worry, nudging happens all the time online :()

:( Ah well it seems really difficult to get good people to play with. Most just seem to shout abuse into the mic!

If anyone does tap you, apply the brake - quickly. It should, not always, but usually stops the spin.

also try and take a proper racing line through corners. If you slide the back end out Ridge racer style dont be surprised if someone behind you catches it, whereas if you are clipping the apex correctly even if someone shunts you it will sent you forwards rather than spinning you.

The 'usual' mistakes that I see my friends make when they come round and have a go (these faults are much more noticable when driving higher powered cars!):
1. Hard acceleration / hard braking.
The controller triggers are analogue, enabling you to gently apply the throttle/brake - you do not have to harshly 'snap' each button down all the time. You wouldnt drive your car like that! With regards to cornering, overly harsh braking = understeer (car will not turn into the corner enough, you'll slide right past the apex and hit the armco), while overly harsh acceleration = oversteer (back end slides out/car spins - which then leads to point #4)
2. Braking while cornering
This causes instability, traction loss and slow cornering. Brake before turning in, and accelerate out (gently, see point #1!).
3. Scattering for the 1st corner
We all know everyone tries to smash everyone off at the first corner. Sit back a little, stick to the racing line and while they're in a pile on the outside of the corner you can just glide past :)
4. Over-correcting positioning
Going down a straight, if you're not perfectly straight, dont worry about it unless you are going to hit something. Keep adjusting your line and you'll slow yourself down. If you do have to adjust, very gently move the stick (I quite often see my friends going from barrier to barrier down a straight just trying to correct themselves and overdoing it!)
5. Use less e-brake
It might be 'cool' in need for speed chavtastic edition but it does not do you any favours in terms of being quick. There may be the odd time you need to use it but very rarely.

Hope some of these help! :)

on the first corner adopt the inside line early on, try not to pile across the apex using other cars as guides like you would offline, this will only prompt idiot yanks to try and take you out whenever they can in revenge :(

The key is look at the good players, the contenders and hotshots. They dont faff about, they get out of the first corner fast and then drive steadily and without too much fault and they ALWAYS stay untouchable, its not that they are particularily better than and half decent PGR driver, but that 3 sec lead they get early on cant really be clawed back.

Best advice? lap the main tracks that appear in the class you are gonna use offline, learn to drive a reasonable lap without any crashes/ large mistakes. Then go online and make sure you get out of the first corner cleanly and in the lead. Then just keep your nerve.

In any given class there are only 2-3 competetive cars, this will be easily noticed by what the majority of people drive in that server. Driving anything else will leave you behind, an unfortunate imbalance in the game i geuss. for example in B class racing the Enzo is king, although some spectacular wins are made by people who drive the CCBS skillfully. In A class you'll struggle to beat the F50 GT drivers. In C class i use the SLR Maclaren, a cracking car and a lot better than the F50's everyone else drives, people think its slow cos its one of those burbley low revving cars that dont sound like their running unless youve got the sub up full blast! In D class its one of the older ferraris that rules the 288 or something, its an annoying class and i avoid it, i never race E class really.

Hope some of this helps
