Is there a certain way of doing the cone challenges on the hardest skill setting. achieving 16,000K seems a bit unrealistic from the attempts I've made.

Obviously you need to not hit anything. Use any and every corner/turn you get to skid or slide and get extra points for that. If there are any gaps between cones big enough to make your multiplier re-set (ie you gain kudos points into your bank) then you need to find a way to skid the car a little or speed up to make sure that doesn't happen. Basically your multiplier needs to keep running right to the end.

Practice, practice, practice...

The right type of car also helps - I have found the Ultima GTR to be a good car (fast acceleration and good handling).

Others here will also tell you that sticking the car in manual and putting it in second gear is the way forward. I didn't really find this helpful, but it tends to keep the Ultima at a reasonable speed - enough to make it through most cone gates within the time limit - but not high enough to make you lose control. (I found that in second it wasn't quite quick enough to make some of the gaps between cone gaps - but you could quickly flick up to third for these parts)

Yeah all i done when going down the straights was skid all over left and right using the handbrake, and skid round the corners, gets the score right up, you can get it that high that you can miss some of the cones out. :)

fooolios :P

Ure all forgetting on huge wide corners throw a 360 type thing into it, not quite a 360 as it isnt so tight but u go around in a circle using ya hand brake ull get e-slides and e-drifts and racks up loads of points. Do it for a few seconds then head off around the rest of the track. U may not make every cone but if u miss one do a slide to the next to keep ya combo going i found em dead easy after a while tbh!

Purely a case of using drift types to continue the combo, everytime you go through a gate or do a drift it multiplies by 1 more, technically you could have 1000 points and 32x multiplier, thats 32,000. It's not that hard to do once you have the right car for the job.

I found the hardest part with the cones was actually spotting them coming! In PGR2 they were highly visibly cones, now they are just sticks!

Anyway, here is my advise for what it may be worth:

Learn the track and try to remember where the cones are. Most of the time it is left, right, left, right etc, but I found it would be where two cones would be on the right and break the left, right pattern where I would be thrown.
Take your time, there is not that much of a time rush even with Platinum. It is more important to go relatively slowly, ensuring you get every gate than to be flying down the road.
Don't use a mental ultra fast car. I was trying to get them using my beloved RUF RTurbo but it would occasionally spin out or I would end up going just too fast. I then changed to the Ultima GTR, which was fantastic for the challenges. It has great acceleration to boost you to the next cone in time if you do end up going quite slow, it is also very controllable and stable and a little tweak of the handbrake will bring the back end out nicely, with enough power to create a slide on demand. And is does not end up going insanely fast!!
As for 360's I never did any, just tried to pull of a reasonable slide here and there on the big turns and applying a bit of handbrake here and there to bring the back end round on the tighter cones.
