Phanteks Evolv Shift 2

Hoping they bring out the shift X v2 also. Aside from the power supply orientation which I am not a fan of, would like some of these improvements in the bigger brother to replace my V1 of the case.

Nice refresh here. Will be interesting to see how it's priced.

Based on article I saw yesterday by hexus: https://hexus.net/tech/items/chassis/147059-phanteks-launches-new-evolv-shift-2-shift-2-air/

Around the £100 mark for glass version and £90 for the mesh. OCUK actually have them up also anyways as pre orders for that price too: https://www.overclockers.co.uk/cases-and-modding/pc-cases/micro-itx-nuc/mini-itx-cases?p=4

so about £10 uplift from old version to new glass version.

Much more in-depth.

I'm left with two grumbles; I wish the case could be inverted (because of the AIO thing, and also I'd prefer the motherboard side of my case facing me), and I wish they'd done one SKU with both panel types, rather than a TG version and a vented version (if they needed to but costs, they could have dropped the DRGB controller and fan).

I agree, a hybrid version with mesh panel to GPU side and glass to the other seems ideal in almost all cases. I am not quite sure why they haven't thought of selling that.

I’ll be honest I’m not a fan of the mesh at all, looks super cheap like a pair of tights stretched over a piece of plastic.

A metal vented side panel would have been much nicer.

Yeah. I was hoping they'd come back with a solution like on the FormD T1 if they ever did a refresh. That'd be ideal. With this type of mesh, is only want the mesh on the side of the case that won't be visible.

Still, if the NR200 didn't exist then I'd likely wind up buying one of these. I'm still tempted, as the small footprint would help on my small desk.

Yeah, thats a pity. My shift 1 has the motherboard facing out and it looks better I think. All it would have taken would be the ability to flip the base stand/grill 180° ... its already demountable, so just make the power supply cut out and USB cutouts the same on each side.

Disappointed. Bad radiator support, only 2.9 PCIE slots, no usb-c.

The air cooling should be fine in this though as long as you aren't putting a hugely power hungry cpu in it.

2.9 slot gpu opens the room for a lot of cards and some very big ones at that.

Not all itx mobos even have usb c headers so seems hardly like an oversight when the cost increase to customers would end up being for something they might not even able to use.

The team at CM who worked on the NR200 have written about this numerous times. A proper USB-C port adds significantly to the cost of the case. They could do a hack job and do USB 3.1 Gen 2 with a C connector for a relatively modest increase in cost. But that doesn't really add anything, and a Type A to Type C adapter is equally good.

It's the same sort of problem as PCIe Gen 4 risers really. Both would be good to have. But both add significantly to the cost.

The first generation of this case was apparently launched in 2017 (According to Leo at KitGuru) - Therefore if they expect a similar life span of the Gen 2, taking us to 2023/24, it is not unreasonable to want more functionality over the Gen 1 variant.

Realistically, what has been improved over Gen1? 2.9PCIE over 2 slot, some "magic" filtering and some RGB?

Well if you look at NZXT, specifically the H210i, which has USB Type C and is priced around the £110 mark, it surely can't cost that much extra.

H210i proves the point.

It's a much simpler design, which will be reusing parts from other H-Series cases. As a result, it's likely that manufacturing costs are lower. It also doesn't use a riser cable. And yet MSRP is £10 more.

Anyone else find it strange Phanteks didn't decide to offer the mesh panels as an accessory for the TG case or do a mix and match with mesh gpu side and glass cpu side?

Seems like a strange choice, I do wonder if its something to do with airflow or pressure systems in the case

I doubt it, it will just be down to £££. Someone will have done a cost benefit analysis and made a decision.

The larger case makers don’t seem to understand there is a market for Itx cases which fit high end systems which is why things like the ncase and Dan cases exist and constantly sold out.

Someone like an NZXT or phanteks could replicate that for a fraction of the price, just like cooler master and have an instant hit.

I just don’t understand how so many itx cases can have so many flaws.
