Hi,

Phanteks extend its range with another premium product by offering a reservoir that is a little different than anything on the market. The reservoir is designed to mount onto a radiator or Fan in PC’s with limited space. The reservoir comes in sizes holding 120ml and 200ml in fluid and can be used as a standalone reservoir or you can add a DDC in the attached compartment.

The Phanteks Glacier R160 is a reservoir consisting of polished acrylic glass and a nickel-plated copper and aluminium cooler that is ideal for custom watercooling. Thanks to its multi-port design and numerous mounting options, including a fan bracket and the option of mounting a D5- or DDC pump, the Glacier reservoir is extremely flexible and looks particularly stylish thanks to the integrated RGB lighting.

I really like that how different it is. I think Phanteks need to tell their marketing video guy to chill out a bit though - I had to tap out halfway through!

A little mis-leading claiming this ;

Compatible with DDC and D5 pumps

The only reason it is 'compatible' with a D5 pump is because it has an inlet port ( like every other reservoir on the planet ) !

Using a D5 you would have to run tubing into this reservoir as per normal, nothing revolutionary about having a G1/4 threaded inlet.

They should say all pumps, rather than imply that any special consideration was given to using a D5.

Nice idea , but the majority of enthusiasts use a D5, so this offers nothing but a different shape.

It looks like the pump is actually mounted to the res a bit like a pump top. Look a bit closer at the two ports and you can make out the shape of where a pump would be mounted.

Would love a cheaper version without the cooling, bet it makes very little difference but adds to the cost massively.

Is the techlabs version PWM?

That's for the DDC pump only.

The D5 pump does not connect direct to the reservoir, hence my post about ' D5 compatible ' being used in very loose terms.

Another small issue i see is that you will have to use Pastel fluids ( non transparent ) to avoid showing the large blue impeller on the DDC pump when mounted.

My bad you did just mention the D5. :)

It's nice to have more choice with form factors, but that marketing video is a waste of time being all dramatisation and RGB and nothing about the mounting options.

If they had another outlet port at the bottom that might have enabled some useful configurations.

Still don't understand having a copper plate then mated with aluminium heatsink for the Res... Makes since if it's just cooling the pump but that's a different heatsink

I think the fact it's a 'heatsink' is completely inconsequential. It's doubtful that the thin copper plate on it's own would be strong enough to seal so adding the aluminium extrusion gives it rigidity and continuity against the DDC heatsink part when in use or not in use. It's a different solution that's inkeeping with Phanteks block design which also avoid stainless parts at all costs, seems a bit futile to me when all pumps have stainless bits but, nyeh if they can get people to believe they aren't mixing metals when they are definitely using at least 4, fair.
