Hello all. I am new here and this is my first post. I can't seem to find another 'section' to post this little 'adventure'!
Motherboard is a MSI MPG Z390 Gaming Pro carbon (MS-7B17)
Bios = E7B17IMS.1A0 (08-13-2020)
Latest windows 64 version (2004)
I was previously running a 'normal' 12 volt RGB strip connected to the JRGB1 header with no problems whatsoever.
Decided to buy 2 Phanteks M1 Digital RGB LED strips (from Overclockers UK).
At first, I daisy-chained them and connected them to the 5V JRAINBOW1 header. Powered up the PC, started MysticLight (from within DragonCentre) - But, the M1's were not being detected. They are not even lighting up at all - not even a little flash when turning on the PC. So I powered down the PC then connected just 1 at a time but neither worked. Tried connecting the supplied adapter/extension lead at the other end - still nothing. Uninstalled Dragon Centre (because I never use it for anything) and then installed Mysic Light (V3.0) on its own. Still Nothing.
Have read countless, unhelpful, posts via a Google search. Have re-booted PC countless times. Have even delved into the BIOS to see if something might be amiss, but can't see anything.
It seems unlikely that I would have been unlucky enough to buy 2 dead and useless LED Strips. Or maybe the JRAINBOW1 header is just dead (how - I have never used it before!?). That seems to be the only 3 pin 5V header available on the board, so I can't try another one.
On advice from MSI Tech Team, disconnected the 24 pin power and removed motherboard battery for at least 5 minutes. It made no difference.
Managed to borrow a multimeter and discovered that the JRAINBOW header is pumping out 5.05 volts, so that seems to be OK.
Am I the unluckiest person on the planet and actually bought 2 dead and useless strips of plastic???
I suppose one must consider the possibility that Phanteks have made a mistake stating that the Neon Strips are compaible with MSI Mystic Light - however I think that would be very unlikely
Now I am completely out of ideas. Has anyone come accross this before / found any solutions / have ANY ideas?
Have a good day everyone and thanks for any replies,
Glenn
EDIT: THE PHANTEKS NEON DIGITAL RGB LED STRIPS ARE OBVIOUSLY NOT COMPATABLE - AS STATED BY PHANTEKS - WITH MSI MOTHERBOARDS / MYSTIC LIGHT (AT LEAST NOT MINE). THEY WORK PERFECTLY WELL WHEN USING PHANTEKS OWN DIGITAL RGB CONTROLLER !! TAKE THAT AS YOU WILL.
