Hi All,

I bought this Phanteks PSU and Cable start Kit:

What I didn't realise is that the 12VHPWR cable isn't compatible with my RTX3080Ti FE. What cable should I get for it? I have the 2x 8Pin to 12Pin adapter for the 3080ti already so should I get this:

I'm pretty sure that cable is not what you want, it looks like it uses 3 8-pins to make a 16 pin and that's no good to you.

If you need 2x 8-pins for the adapter you own, then you can buy those, but from what I can see they're not cheap.

Turns out the cable I had is backwards compatible, I was just not installing it properly. There are 4 extra pins on the PSU cable but there is a gap that allows you to plug it into the FE.

So you are saying you are running the GPU with that cable or that it can plug in?

I was thinking of getting one for my 3080 FE (to future proof) but was told by Corsair and a cable modding shop that it will not work.

I'm running the GPU with that cable. I've yet to play games but from reading around, it is backwards compatible. The extra 4 pins are only for the 3090Ti and 4080/4090 which require more power.

Thanks for confirming.

I did read that it is backward compatible, but found it strange that they said it was not.

There's a comment by someone from Cable Mod there as well, and they make the Phanteks cables.

Seen a CableMod 12VHPWR for Corsair at £15, so thought i might as well try it.

At first it did not want to plug in, but then i remembered you can remove the connector guard thing. After taking that off, it plugged in fine and it works ok.

Now i am future proofed for when the 4080s get a massive price drop.
