Phanteks vs Noctua

Im looking for a cpu cooler and looking at the Phanteks PH-TC14PE or the Noctua NH-D14.

As far as I have seen from benchmerks etc, there isnt much between the coolers, with maybe the Noctua just edging it.

However the rest of my build is basically blue so the Phantek has that in its favour.

Does anyone know if the hantek is slightly smaller than the Noctua?

The case Im going to be putting it in to is a Thermaltake Armour. Its a full size case, but does have a beefy fan on the side panel. Either of these should fit right?

If performance wise they are similar then maybe I should juts go with the aesthetics of the Phantek?

It will be cooling a 3570k and obviously I would like to get to about 4.5Ghz

Put them both in a bag, shake it up and they will both fall out at same time.
Color is the biggest difference they have.

Agreed, i'd say the Noctua has slightly better build quality tolerance as i've had a few issues with lining up the Phanteks (used about 18 so far), its definetly an issue as one lines up whereas another dosent' and needs a little bending or lossening of the mounting bracket.. on the same board.

Phanteks is 170mm clearance required can't remember the Noctua but I could guess its 160/170mm in size. Remember you can always just get different fans on any high tower cooler. The Alpenfohn K2 is just above the noctua and about 1C off the Phanteks if I remember correctly.

Might try installing cooler middle plate before tightening mounting strips to motherboard back bracket. Helps to align everything. I also found the bridge mount springs had to be compressed to get thread to engage which is a pain as need to keep down pressure on cooler to keep it from moving while starting the mounts.

They both look to me that they would be more suited to cool a nuclear reactor than a 3570k running about 4.5Ghz.
The price of the Noctuna is almost as much as I paid for my Z77 board..!

My 3570k at 4.4Ghz runs as high as 75c when under full load in a warmish room fitted with an Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro Rev 2 cooler, which cost me £12 inc delivery.

Fair enough. But I found a nice price for the Noctua. Also my thinking is by the time I'm buying a high end cpu to oc it, no point limiting the cpu with an inadequate cooler.

Rightly or wrongly I've bought it now and went for the Noctua as I hope its quieter than the Phantek?

I think both are same. Six of one and half a dozen of other. :D
Any way you slice it you have one of the best coolers on the market.

this
if you got it for a good price, then you cant go wrong
i have a D14, very happy with it, also noctua customer service is brilliant.

FYI,
I've delt with both Phanteks and Noctua customer service and support. Noctua is brilliant... Had a few hiccups with Phanteks but end result was very good. I needed the PWM adapter from Phanteks and first attempts to contact using their request form got lost in cyberspace. After 10 days I emailed support direct and had reply in less then 10 minutes!! They mailed out the adaptor but it took over a week to arrive... Somehow it ended up in USA, was opened and searched, and put into a special USPS envelop. No way I can blame Phanteks as address was correct.

i would choose the noctua the build quality is fantastic im using the slightly older nh-u12p and it still keeps my bulldoser fx-8150 @4ghz idle 35c and load 48c load been looking at upgrading it to the nh-d14

Not at all. Sometimes hard to tell what a person means. :)

Found helios review. Link to OC listing by temp. Top coolers are all in same bag:

H100, TC14PE, Silver Arrow, Kuhler 920, NH-D14, K2 all within .75 and 1.5c depending on 4, 3 or 2 fans

Edit:
I wouldn't want to try and list all the cooler that are within 5c of coolest. Would be longer then my ... arm.
