Phase or Water?

Hi,

I have a Phase Unit at the moment and I am thinking of changing it to a water setup. I know that the temps wouldn't be as good as phase, if I use water but I think water looks better.

But I am just wondering which would you choose Phase or water?

get the phase unit charged for a quad and then you should see a real benefit over water cooling (assuming you go for quad core cpu). The upgrade will probably set you back as much as a decent watercooling set up.

watercooling is obviously much easier to install into a case and therefore is easier to make look good.

However, with a bit of planing phase can look great installed into a case and 'look' considerably l337er than water, imo.

you didn't mention if your current phase unit is already mounted in the pc case or is still in it's own box. This can obviously add a lot to the budget.

phase is obviously noisier than water but you probably know that if you already have a unit.

Also, you have one of the best phase cooling technicians in the country on your doorstep.

The wait for phase mods ATM is at least 5 weeks for the quality engineers. And TBH you would be looking at a fair amount of work for your unit. I would sell your unit and go custom watercooling. A lot less hassle, believe me.

tbh i would keep phase temps 10x better and will let you push the clock a little more.

Temps wouldnt be better because it wont be able to handle the load of an overclocked dual core, let alone quad core.

Geordie_Boy. Is the unit a VapoPE/SE/ or XE?

I have water but to get it out of my system I decided to build a second phase rig,

Good fun but sold it about 2 weeks later.

Hassle, noise etc.. and the realisation I would not use it 24/7.

Glad I did it but water for the win :)

Have to be a custom unit for quad, nowt you can buy off self right now pre built will do it.

Your current phase will not even do it, it's a 12v compresser and it really needs to be a 240v

Plus blens of gas, better evap, conderser, accumlater, SLHX

£550 looking for a custom quad unit

Phase 24/7 emmm,. I have been phase and water back and forth. My Personal views is phase isn't ideal for 24/7 running.

Why is i run my PC in my bedroom and phase kicks out heat and a good degree of noise. As Drazic said a 12v compressor isnt going to cut a Quad core CPU,. I have a custom unit for sale in the MM section and it uses a SC15 compressor. Loud but very powerful, i mention this as for this unit to hold a quad to a good temperature it requires a few mods which take time and skill. Suction line Acumilator and a decent blend of refrigerant and evaporator is essential along with a large condenser.

Custom unit is the only way when using a quad CPU, A mach2GT will cut a Quad but when the clocks and voltages are increased it will fall over.

24/7 Water for me however it all depends on how much you want those extra Mhz. :p

Good luck on your choise.

phase for benching, water for 24/7

if you're not worried about super-pi times water is just so much more versatile.

it's not like you will be challenging for WR times with a single stage box anyway ;)
