Not sure if this is the right place to put this and I suppose it's more of an appraisal than anything, but if, for instance, someone was to buy a second hand, but brand new unused LD case with new phase unit included, would there be much of a market for the phase alone if the buyer of the 'used' case didn't want the unit?

If so, what sort of money could they hope to fetch for it?

With CPU's these days you really don't need it, End of the day you can only put 1.425V through the CPU without degrading it, Custom watercooling would even be overkill, Phase units are quite loud, I used to have one many years ago the LCS sound like a Fridge on 24/7.

Phased cooling old fashion now?

About 2005 when I had more money than sense, I bought a phased cool pc case, Asetek VapoChill rings a bell, was superb kit.

But, with today's cpu's there isn't a need for it, or are some here on this forum who still use it?

The LD unit would happily sell on the bay or other forums dedicated to this sort of thing.

Dont listen to the above, just because its not "in" for them doesnt mean others think the same... I know personally about 40 people who have phase units or mess around with LN2 or Dry Ice.

If you do sell it, remove it from the LD case, bolt it securely to a sheet of MDF but be sure not to stress any of the lines.

You can buy a case just for the phase unit from members of other forums such as Poitres, LD, Duniek etc (they are the members) leaving you with a fully functioning phase unit thats not contained in the case.

These units fetch around £280-400 on a sheet of MDF and around £350-500 in a case (Depends on condition and use).

Wow!

That does surprise me Andrew, never realised they were fetching that much.:(

Andrew, thanks for the excellent response.

The unit is rated for 280w at -30°c and is unused.

The case has been bought by someone who has now changed his mind and wants shot. I don't have any experience with phase cooling and haven't really thought about going down that route tbh, I know it's not as potentially quiet as a water cooled PC, but the way some go on, I was beginning to think that these units sound like a diesel generator.

I want the case and all I wanted to know is would the money I could get back on the phase unit mean buying the case would garner me as much of a saving on a new LDv8 as I had hoped.

I know of LD and Duniek from other forums. I see LD is selling the case for the phase alone. £30-£33 plus shipping from Slo. - would it be worth buying the case to house the unit or would it have more chance of selling if the potential buyer could buy it 'bare' so as to house it in his/her own case?
