hey. my phenom 2 x2 unlocked to 4 at 3.1ghz is idle at between 51 and 54 degrees. on it is a arctic freezer pro 7. i have cleaned the old grease and applied fresh stuff but still cant get it down.

it started when i installed a crosshair 3 mb and a corsair psu with a ton of wires. also 2 msi 6850's. the case is a nzxt but i cant find exactly which one it is. there is 3 case fans. looking inside it it does look crammed in so airflow could be the problem.

was looking at the corsair h50 or the coolit eco.
the gpu's are running at 40 degrees.

any thaughts?

thanks

ok. i think i will take the cooler off and clean the old grease off and put some fresh stuff on. does t matter what which way the fan on the cooler faces. up towards one of the case fans or down into the case?

What are you using to read temps?

The best fit is between the memory and a rear exhaust fan.

Best airflow is front intake to back exhaust.

Is the corsair psu fan working?

The arctic fp7 is working hard with an overclock and 2 x gfx underneath it.

andy.

Check CPU-Z, what voltage is the CPU on under load? Sounds to me like the extra two cores need more voltage to start.

My AII X4 630 ran 32*c idle under the stock cooler so something's not right there, do you have a decent rear fan?

Try dropping it a notch at a time. A saving of 0.05V down to 1.35 would be useful.

That is still way hotter than you would expect surely. My load temps on my unlocked 555 are 50*C and that is at 1.45v, idle temps at 38*C or so.

right. how do i lower the colt's? all i have done to this is unlock the 4 cores so there this is amost complete stock settings.

Okay. Download CoreTemp. One of the things it will tell you is VID. This is what the voltage should be at stock. Once you know this go into the BIOS.

There will be an option in bios for setting the voltage of the cpu. This may be called a number of different things eg vcore or something else. You may be able to find out in your motherboard manual or from someone else who has your board.

It will currently be set to Auto (I assume) you should change that and set it to what it should be set to (from the VID).

See if that reduces your temps.

Well in theory the reduced volts will make the CPU run cooler, so I guess the fan speed will run at a lower speed.

ok core temp said the vid is 1.4 so i lowerd it to 1.3. i am idle at about 47*c.

is it worth going lower?

burn tested. reached 52*c all stable.

That sounds okay to me. The load temp is alright. You will need to make completely sure that the CPU is totally stable now that you have undervolted it. A good long prime95 burn and some more IBT should do you.

If you want to further reduce your idle temps then try turning on cool'n'quiet in the BIOS (I assume it is turned off at the moment).

there isnt much room in the case atm. i think that is adding to the high temps. there isnt much airflow. i put a corsair 800w game psu in it and the leftover cables are everywhare. i doubt the titan would fit. going by the reviews on it. anything a bi smaller that would work. is it worth while trying to fit an h50?

edit: im going to replace the case fans with scythe slip streams. http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=FG-022-SY&groupid=701&catid=57&subcat=4
should help the circulation. dont really care about how loud things are.
