Hello!
I just bought this https://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HS-038-ZA and some MX-2 TP.
I bought them because my Phenom II 940 was running at 50-60 idle at 3GHz,
Now I have applied the MX-2 paste and installed the Zalman but even now, with the fan at max (2400rpm) I'm still getting a reported 60c idle and 70c under load :|

Could the CPU be reporting the temperature wrong? Or could it be faulty?
I'm pretty certain I fitted everything perfectly, and the Zalman is unbeleivably secure in place!
Also not much air flow in my case, but my 4400+ X2 ran never more than 40c :s

Thanks

Well I just played ra3 for a few hours, had 1 bsod about usb something?! and 1 system fail, just froze and nothing would move.
I restarted and the cpu was at 77c... I have no idea what the problem could be, other than airflow, but surely that can't cause the processor to run at 30c more than normal?
:'(

Thanks for the help!
I have a M3A78 and some 4 year old coolermaster.
CPU-Z is reporting the same voltage as overdrive.
I'll see if any of the flatmates have a desk fan or I'll maybe buy a cheap one later on, for now I've put the voltage down to 1.25 and clocked it down to 2.5GHz and it's running at ~52c :s

Wow - that's still way high.

Have mine @ stock volts and 3ghz under the stock cooler - idles @ no more than 25c and loads up to 42c and stays there.

Really does sound like an issue with the chip itself. :(

gt

Wish mine was at that temp!
Thanks for the help, I think I'll look into getting a replacement.
