I have 965BE overclocked to 3.85. It has trouble at times coping with COH which is CPU heavy. Is there a better AMD processor at present or should i wait
for the next generation

Samsung 840SSD
MB Asus M5A99XEvo

Thanks:confused:

Get a 8320 with a good cooler and you are away :)

Way cheaper than converting to Intel with a new motherboard etc. Also far less hassle.

I think I will make the same move in the not so distant future. If I find some spare £££

I upgraded from a quad Phenom II @ 3.9ghz to a 6 core Piledriver chip @ 4.9ghz and it fly's imo.

Just before upgrading in the benchmarks I was running I would get 100% CPU usage and around 70-80% GPU usage.

Now I get about 60-80% CPU usage and 100% GPU usage.

Was definitely a worth wile cheapish upgrade!

Also have the same board as you, I really like it. I sold my 990fx Sabertooth rev 1 for it as the Evo supports faster memory, there was no downside at all as far as overclocking is concerned and like mentioned, supports faster memory. It wont hold you back on an FX chip!

Thanks for all the replies, I also asked at my local computer shop, where they build and repair computers and they were of the opinion that there was little point in upgrading the CPU to a "piledriver", and i would be better off upgrading the the GPU (Which is a GTX660)
So i am even more confused.

Chances are the folks in your local computer shop don't know very much! :)

Listen to people here, they'll see you right.

8320 if your mobo supports it and oc

if it doesnt and you want fastest intel i5 or i7

the phenoms are pretty decent in many games still. just work out is it worth it to you to upgrade. small little pc shops mainly like pc world filled with idiots who don't know what they talk about :p

my local one for eg sells q tec psus :D

I take it you mean COH 2? The first game shouldn't have any trouble at all on your CPU. The second will gain a lot from an 8320.

Do you actually play these games?
DOW II uses the same engine as COH and on COH you want Intel, the FX93 whatever has only just been able to break 60 FPS average on that engine (LOL) whereas I'm pumping along at 115.

Colour me not surprised, Intel ahead for COH 2 ;

Although I don't expect you to analyse the results properly.

What on earth are you talking about? Where did I say anything about Intel?

You didn't, I did as I mentioned you want Intel for the performance in these game.

I'd just wait for SR if I was the OP unless I was switching platform though for COH/2 isn't worth it on PD.

It doesn't even seem that well multithreaded. The 8320/50 would be a nice upgrade but an i5 will offer more due to the higher IPC. AMD is behind in terms of core performance so they're just trying to cram more cores, but not every software can take advantage of that. It depends on how much you want to spend.

I am referring to COH not COH2

I have the "Blitzkrieg" add on pack installed. I don't have any
problems running the basic game, and most skirmishes, but when i select and have a battle with 8 factions fighting ( the computer controlling 7) then it causes a big slowdown as it tries to cope, which is the problem

Thanks

Yeah, that mod will make the CPU struggle. An 8320 here wouldn't help a huge deal as the game is single threaded.
