if the current bios version supports upto 9600 then probably no it won't work.. 9500/9600 are b2, 9x50 are b3

btw your sig as to many lines... should be max 4 lines

Just installed a 9850BE into my GA-MA790FX-DS5 and spent 4 hours in BIOS hell. seems optimal bios settings wont boot (hangs at Verifying DMI) had to use fail safe bios settings in the end. Boy has it speeded the machine up though :) . quite an improvement from my X2-6400 .

the GA-MA790FX-DS5 is a AM2+ motherboard which they are made for phenoms.. his motherboard is a AM2 so it probably won't work until they update the bios to support the b3 phemons...

Well, as the legend goes, AM2+ is compatible with AM2, only it'll run without the more advance power management features and HT improvements that AM2+ provides.

yes AM2+ motherboards are compatible with AM2 processors without a need of bios update. but the AM2 motherboard are only compatible with AM2+ processors when theres a bios update...

Overclocking results?
well before i sent mine back to amd for replacement. i tryed clocking it, it clocks to 2.70ghz on stock voltage. for 2.8-2.9ghz it needs 1.30v... i can't comment if the clocks are stable because my 9850 wasn't stable at stock, :D

within 2weeks amd will send the 9850 replacement then i'll try again.. also they giving me a free Opteron 1218...;)
