What damage (if any) would have been done to my processor if it was running at 119 Celcius? Never had it do an unplanned shutdown yet so wondering if it's actually suffered at all.

It hasn't though, still running fine just the same as it always has. Think it might of been the reason for the poor performance I'd been getting from my rig.

I believe the maximum operating temperature of that chip is supposed to be 61°C.

I'm sure it would have shut down long before reaching 119°C.

Are you sure you're not reading the temperature in Fahrenheit?

119°F would be around 48°C which is more plausible.

Run prime 95 to see if its dead/dying it will cause errors if something is wrong.

Fix the temp problem first though, 119*C is most definitely dead processor territory, especially on AMD chips, they have lower thermal tolerance for some reason.

That 119 was on the Tj Max reading, but will run Prime95 on it tomorrow. Thanks :).

Isnt the TJ Max the actual max temp that the CPU can go before it throws you warnings/shutsdown and not the actual max the CPU actually hit? Im guessing you were using Coretemp to monitor the CPU temps. If so, then yea, thats the max it could go in that program before it throws you errors, but im sure the PC would shut itself down way before then.

Running a torture test, just need to know how long for :). CPU is currently at 70 celcius and it's cold in here.

Edit: Ran it for half an hour with no errors, will leave it on overnight providing it's not a fire hazard :)?

You could run prime95 all day long and not get errors, but then use it on something simple like browsing the net or playing a game and have it BSOD (Had it happen to me )

Run Intel Burn Test on as much RAM as possible and do 10+ loops of that too.

Ok, will try that overnight Deception. It's been running on Prime95 since about 2am this morning and I've not gone to it yet, will try playing a game when I get back to it and see what happens :). Fancy having a go at an overclock, my Black Edition cpu is a bit wasted otherwise. On the stock AMD hsf though..? Thinking of a Coolermaster V8, my birthday tomorrow though so I shall see what appears :).

Ran for 14 hours 41 minutes with no errors or warnings, or crashes on use afterwards. Maybe my CPU is ok then..? In which case why am I getting such low fps in game and experiencing drops on them?
