Phenom and CPU Throttling

Of course I had to get my X3 720be up to 3ghz which wasn't a problem Only thing is I notice CPU throttling no longer works. CPUz shows it stuck at 3013 all the time whereas on auto it throttled back to 800mhz when not working hard. I have a Gigabytle Ga-MA770T-UD3P.

Might put it back to auto as it doesn't need to be running full 3ghz all the time.

But it was working at cpu multi set to auto:confused: Now the cpu seems to stick at 3ghz all the time. I'll check it's on in BIOS. Cool n' Quiet is set at Auto by default. Should I set it to "on"? Also does C & Q work with win 7's own power management or do I need the AMD software?

Me again! I think win 7 has its own c & Q drivers. I'll try setting the C & Q to "On" in BIOS instead of Auto. Power management in Windows is definitely set to adjust the CPU speed.

CnQ stopped working for me at some point during my overclocking efforts. Uninstalled processor driver and reinstalled it in device manager. That got it working again.

Unfortunately CnQ results in instability on my unlocked CPU.

Set cpu X back to auto, now cpu throttles back to 800mhz when idle. Only settings for c & q are disabled and auto. Looks like if you want cpu throttling can't overclock. Wonder if it works using Gigabyte Windows based oc utility? I'm not a fan of these normally preferring to use the BIOS. Nvidia'a version could be v flaky!

Maybe. BIOS is version 4 dated last Sept. I'll check with Gigabyte support first. Never been a fan of uneeded BIOS flashes.

This is a lovely mobo by the way.
