Hey, i'm wondering how good does a Phenom II x2 555 unlocked to a quad core match up to current AMD CPU's? I am only interested in AMD, so please don't post stuff about Intel, i am quite aware of how good those CPU's are. :p

IIRC my fully unlocked CPU equals to something like a Phenom II x4 955? But i am not sure on that...

I could overclock my CPU but it will be a pain because of the temp readings are messed up when unlocked, and i cant be bothered with playing a guessing game.

I want to upgrade my CPU but i am not sure what would be a decent upgrade over my current unlocked CPU at the moment.

Should i wait out for Piledriver?

Yeah seems logical, i tend to get impatient when upgrades are on the mind though. I just need some other peoples thoughts on it.

I'm on a 955 and there is literally no point in upgrading right now, the 955 is fast enough to cope with pretty much everything out there.

When I unlocked mine, I also got the messed up temperature thing, however I found one of my motherboard's temperature probes was the same as my cpu cores(don't know if that was luck), so I just went off that.

Don't worry about the messed up core readings when you unlock your CPU, it's the actual CPU temp itself that you need to be looking at anyway.

Also there's not much a quad core Phenom II at 3.2Ghz or above can't do for a gamer/average user, certainly haven't come up against any games that have brought my unlocked CPU to it's knees yet!

I agree with you all, i think ill stick with what i got, everything i throw at my CPU right now is fine performance wise.

Cheers.

I'm upgrading from a Phenom II 955 (which I've had for 3 years) today to a 3570k. I have to admitt its always played every game extremely well, but now I'm doing more photoshop work, I could do with the extra grunt.

Hurry up delivery man!
