I am looking to buy a new cpu/motherboard/ram.
I currently use my pc for web, office and converting dvds to .avi then burning to dvds, My pc currently does the conversion to both .avi and then to dvd fairly quick but i will be doing a lot of work soon and need the extra speed to boost the time.
I currently have a 9950 with 4gb ddr2 800mhz and i was thinking will the Phenom II 720 and 4gb GEIL Ultra Series 2133mhz be able to shave any time off what my current 9950 completes tasks?
So basically i am asking will a Phenom II 720 and ddr3 recode and burn dvds quicker than my Phenom 9950 and ddr2?

Well, they have been known to clock quite well. Are you running your current chip at stock?

I am not really too familiar with AMD overclocking but i think that you should be able to hit at least 3.4GHz-3.6GHz.

A motherboard with the 785G or the 790X will be good as well.

There is always a chance that the chip could unlock to a full quad, if you are lucky enough, dont buy based on this little fact though.

the 720 uses less power and less heat, also would overclock higher than a 9950, the 720 should clock to 3.4-3.7ghz maybe alittle higher. my 720 did 3.7ghz with 1.4v
