Hi,

I have had this machine a while now, I am hoping to upgrade soon, but until then I just want to get every last bit of performance out of it!
I have managed to get a stable overclock of 4GHz, haven't tried higher yet as temperatures are stopping me!
I have an AMD Phenom II 955 Black Edition 125W CPU and a Artic Cooling 7 Pro Rev 2
Idle temps are around the 40's and hit about 70 before I stop any stress tests that are running!

Would I be better buying a better air cooler, or would a watercooling solution be cheaper/more worthwhile?

Budget would be about £35 at the moment unfortunately!

Thanks :)

What coolers will fit depends what your case and RAM are.
Thermalright True Sprit 120 or 120M
Thermalright Macho 120
Alpenfohn Matterhorn Pure
and there are more

My current one kills off one of the DIMM's, but I am using 2x4GB chips, so I can afford to loose two of the DIMM's if nessessary! My ram is Kingston HyperX Gray which isn't particularly high to be hones.

Would all of you suggestions preform better than the AC Freezer?

Cheers

I would save your money for your new upgrade as you may get a bit higher than 4ghz with a new cooler on the 955 but i don't think you will notice any performance increase in real word use.

Yes, they are all better coolers.

But without knowing what your case is I can't be sure they will fit.

Sorry, my case is a Sharkoon T28, its not great, but it was relatively cheap at the time!

I am not trying to get really high overclocks, the problem i am having is that my current clock is too hot to run! If i get a decent water cooler i suppose i could use it in my next build...

EDIT:
£35 - http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HS-022-CS&groupid=701&catid=2330&subcat=2342

Opinions?

If deal looks too good it usually is.

The 90 day warranty is the give-away. These are most likely RMA's that have been "refurbished".

CPUs forum has thread about them; 2 posts of coolers received and both have issues.. one leaking when taken out of box and other having fan control issues.

I had a Prolimatech megahalems on my 955 which was sufficient to keep the cpu under 60 degrees at 1.46V with a single fan. (Overclocked to 3.8GHz which is as far as my chip can go even with proper water cooling) It was also able to clear my hyperx genesis ram in the first two slots. (My corsair dominator had to go in the other slots due to their height)
