Hi Guys,

I've been told in a different thread, that to achieve a 4Ghz overclock, I would need a processor with C3 stepping.... but they usually come with C2 stepping?

How do I know the difference? How do I get hold of the right one?

Cheers,

Andy.

i bought a 955 and a 965 a few days ago, both c3 steppings, the 955 is better than the 965.

can just get the 955 stable at 4ghz, the 965 is not so good

The c3 stepping varietys end in product code MBOX not IBOX, and a lot of places still list it as IBOX, but ship the MBOX variety ,lol

Some sites do state what stepping CPU's are in the description some dont just have to look around. dont think that anyone can link you here tho.

yeah

but thats not to say if another person bought a 955 C3 and a 965 C3, the 965 C3 maybe better than the 955 C3..

its all about luck.

to be honest i wouldnt think that 4ghz is easy. even with the newer revision its not easy to get 4 stable. mine does 4 but not stable upto yet and would run it at that 24/7 even if get it stable as it would require mor volts than i think it should to be safe.

i would say 3.8-3.9 and 4 if you get a very nice chip .

On a different thread, I've been told the 955 and 965 are actually the same chip just with different base speeds.

So, in theory, I can save £20, get the 955 and get the same overclock results?

Cheers,

Andy.

Is there a C3 955 yet? (Edit: D'OH ^^^)

They're all Denebs but there are different Deneb steppings.

4ghz isn't a guarantee on these chips. You just fare a better chance of reaching 4ghz on the C3s :)
