Phenom II questions

I have an AM2+ system which i purchased fom OCUK last year. It has an X2 5600+ cpu with 4 GB of crucial tracer RAM, SLi mobo, and an 8800GT. To be honest the system runs very fast indeed, I only use it for surfing the net, some photoshop, and writeing programmes for my uni work.

Im considering upgradeing to a Phenom II chip as I plan on doing more with my PC this year, e.g multi tasking and some gaming. My question is, how much is the new quad core phenom likely to cost, and what date is it released?

more to the point, do I need it :p

thanks.

You dont sound like you really need it to be honest.

Phenom 2 will be available in early janurary aparently... anytime soon supposingly.

You need to check that your mobo will support it, and flash the appropriate BIOS to it.

RAM is fine, and it soudns like 8800GT is fine for you, even if you game, the 8800GT is a capable card still, if you need something more you can always buy something better.

Quad Phenom will make your system more responsive, and will provide better per-clock performance which is always good.

It shouldnt be too expenive either, with the 3GHz part being speculated to cost less than the Core i7 920, so maybe around 200 max? We dont really know pricing, thats my guess.

Thanks for the info it really helps. Is the Phenom 1 black edition likely to drop with the release of the new Phenom II cpus? I was thinking It could be a bargain chip?
