Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition best CPU in it's price range?

I'm trying to plan a new build with a:
AMD Phenom II X4 Quad Core 955 Black Edition 3.20GHz (Socket AM3) - Retail £149.98
Would there be any other CPU that can compete with this in it's price range for gaming?

Hopefully to be OC'ed, but I'm new to OCing so nothing too extreme.

I would check out the i5 range as they are great for gaming and will outperform the 955 in pretty much everything else.

Yeah as said above check out the Core I5 750.

If you plan to overclock though get a better cooler.

The one I have cost less than £20 and does a great job.

AMD Phenom II X4 Quad Core 965 Black Edition 3.40GHz (Socket AM3) are now retailing at £159.00...only an extra tenner bought one and it chews up games like no tomorrow.. excellent CPU.

I went i5 over the 955, worked out to within a tenner's difference in price for CPU, Mobo and RAM, and performance slightly better, at least to warrant the price difference.

all depends on motherboards and same memory and cpu at same price.

can get phenom boards about 30 cheaper than yours so thats 40 quid difference for basically same performance
